Hi Russett: <<To Jack and others: E mentioned the GPM thread. If you want to talk figures, ask Bob Johnson over there. He has all the figures on gold production and supply worldwide>>

I think Bob will confirm that no copper producer produces as much gold as Barrick - collectively perhaps?

It is the access to the extensive reserves and production of Barrick that allows the writing of tens of millions of ounces of derivatives or paper gold that then can be sold into the spot market and drive it down. Without this collaboration the bullion bankers would have a much harder time manipulating the market. Barrick is not alone in this unholy alliance but it is one of the most aggressive. Just like the spot price of oil is dramatically effected by the existence of a Strategic Oil Reserve that can be used to modulate supply the Barrick reserves are used to allow the aggressive creation of "virtual gold" to depress the gold spot price and enrich the groups that have sold gold short in a gold carry trade that makes them billions if the price falls before they have to repay their low interest loans. For their enrichment the gold industry and it's investors have been destroyed. People on this thread that want to obscure that fact are doing so for the parochial interests of a small group of insiders at the expense of the rest of the gold industry and its shareholders. Knowledge will set you free and exposure is the only weapon against collusion and malfeasance in government.

Perhaps you should take a look at what is down with the creation of paper gold or virtual gold as it is sold in the form of derivatives as "created" supply into the gold spot market to drive the price down. This is a combination of created or derived financial products that can be underwritten by various financial intermediaries and used to "supply" paper gold to the spot market in order to drive the price down. The individuals that have borrowed hundreds of tons of real gold at 1% annual interest rates from various central banks in the form of "leasing" using tremendous leverage can then reap 100%-300% annual returns on their leveraged equity by driving the spot price of gold down. That is what we are talking about my friend the annual production of Barrick is simply the means that these forces have to give credibility to their market gyrations. Much like the Strategic Oil Reserve gives credibility to the Al Gore's of the world when they say they are going to affect the spot price of oil by entering into various swap contracts with the majors. This is a perfect time for the average public to finally be able to understand what has been affecting the spot gold market for years since our politicians are now publicly trying to do something similar in the oil market.
