On profit warnings as a whole - from page 1 of today's Investor Business Daily -

Despite recent profit warnings, negative preannouncements aren't higher than last year. First call says 63 % of the companies to preannounce say they'll miss third-quarter estimates, while 12 % say they'll top views. At the same time last year, 62 % said they'd fall short and 10 % were upbeat -

So not bad!

Semiconductor equipment makers saw their average monthly orders top $ 3 billion in August, marking the first time orders have reached that level in a month, an industry group said. Shipment reached $ 2.4 billion in August giving a book-to-bill ratio of 1.24. Overall worldwide order figures are up 93 % from August 1999 - Semi. eq. & Mat. Intl.
