And, guess who got us into this problem with no energy policy? Who wanted reformulated gas knowing it would increase prices substantially? Who knew we didn't have the necessary refinery capacity for the reformulated gas but did it anyway? Did they know there was only one refinery enabled to reformulate? Is that the reason they really socked middle America? Who are the culprits? Gore and Clinton, that's who!!!!!!

Big oil. How is that defined? Opec, certainly.

Yes... and OPEC is a cartel of producing nations engaged in monopolistic price fixing practices.

What have we done when we find corporations like Microserf or Archer-Daniels-Midland colluding to control prices or drive competitors out of the market?

We've ordered sanctions (sued them).

And of course Big OIL in the U.S. increases prices to maintain their profit margins

So I guess you are opposed to the "big oil" industry being profitable?

Well being profitable means that Big Oil has more more money, and more incentive to take the major risks involved in oil exploration...

And even if they happen to find oil, they then have to deal with Sierra Club, Earth 1st!, the EPA, and liberals in the legislative and executive branches who love to drive their SUV, BMW, and Mercedes, who won't let them drill on Federal or State lands or off-shore....

And then, EVEN if they have overcome all of these hurdles, they often have to big facilitites to transport the crude... which means pipelines, or day storage... which takes them back to EPA and White House liberals, who have to approve their environmental impact statement.....

And finally, if all of these things have occurred, to refine that extra crude oil they have to run their refineries at max capacity with NO MARGIN FOR ERROR OR DISRUPTION... And building extra capacity means dealing with the Sierra Club.. Earth 1st!, the EPA and the White House liberals who like to drive their SUVs, BMWs, Mercedes..... (well you get the picture)...

An industry cannot grow unless it is profitable.. And over the past 15 years, the oil industry has been in an incredible slump, with some of the lowest lease rates on drilling platforms ever.... An industry where Exxon and Mobil were performing so poorly they were forced to merge in order to cut administrative costs and squeeze out something that resembled profits...

And if you know how much it costs to build an off-shore deep drilling platform, then you know why IT IS IN OUR INTERESTS TO HAVE A PROFITABLE OIL INDUSTRY....

If they're NOT making any money, they have NO inducement to explore domestically.....

Anyone who has been involved in business, or invested in the stock market should understand such SIMPLE LOGIC...

I'm astonished that you, a participant on SI, would not understand the necessity of profitability...

Gore raised gas taxes, owns OXY and has worked to decrease OPEC production. Bush has been out of the oil business since the 1980s.

Gore is the Big Oil candidate, not Bush.
