WATSON, the Foster servers are Q4 of 2001, not 2000 so I think Mustang will beat it. Foster will probably leapfrog Mustang in performance (MHz) because it is a 0.13u chip. Do I have this right? Not according to the foils. Intel will attempt to prevent any inroads into the server space at ANY cost. I guess they realize that Xeon may not be a match for Mustang and need to make sure Foster is available before or concurrent with Mustang. They may well succeed but likely only buy selling a chip twice the size of the current Xeon at perhaps half the current monopoly price. theregister.co.uk And where will Foster be positioned. Later slides in the presentation show that it will be used in two way, four way and eight way system. A summary of the feature set of the two way microprocessor reads: "Juniper/Hudson II POR –Targeting product launch TTM with DP Foster - Q4’00 –Will use Colusa –Final POR set in March, following DIA (Design Investment Approval)" The four way slide reads: •Shasta/Cabrillo III POR –Targeting product launch TTM with MP Foster - Q1’01 –Will use RCC* chipset (Grand Champion) –POR set in February, following DIA.
