Sam P. Would you be able to provide an approximate date that we will be seeing DDR systems?
This whole DDR discussion is reminiscent of the Intel/AMD dialogues starting back in ‘97.
Over time AMD went from dire predictions of bankruptcy to being a strong contender.
I see the same similarities here. Currently we have at least seven mobo makers showing DDR mother boards. That has to indicate something. Either we have a group of company's that are plain stupid, or we'll soon see some systems.
How successful will they be? I subscribe to Scumbria's theory, (correct me if I'm wrong, Scumbria), that neither DDR or RDRAM offers enough improvement in the near term to gain major market share. (The main reason I think SDRAM will have ~80% share in 2001). For the majority of consumers, mid range PC's offer more than enough performance. I think DDR's biggest contribution to performance has been and will be in graphics, at least for the next 12 months. Something the user can clearly see in terms of frame rates and realism. And you don't need a P4 to realize those performance improvements.
JMHO's, of course. <g>

Sam,
I think he and Bilow already did. It was sometime in summer of Q3. It has already come and gone. ;-)

Sam,

Would you be able to provide an approximate date that we will be seeing DDR systems?

No. But I'm quite certain that it will happen.
