Niceguy
I disagree about price war. Intel may have no choice but to fight or otherwise the new products would not make that much of a difference if amd and bunch (via, transmeta) would start setting industry standards.

niceguy & thread, the result of a price war with Intel as predicted by JJ will be:
o AMD's ASP will continue to rise but less quickly. Might not reach $100 in Q4.
o Intel's ASP will fall precipitously.

The price war will result in prices that are low and flat from 600 MHz to 900 MHz, but high and steep above that. AMD has enough volume above 900 MHz that they can afford to keep low-end prices 25% below Intel's, which, combined with better performance of Duron vs. celeron will result in higher sales.

I had earlier predicted that the ability of AMD to compete at all points of the MHz curve would lead to a flattening of the curve. This has happened. Now AMD will be increasing its lead at the high end (P4 doesn't matter until at least Q2 because of low, low volume). So the price curve will be re-steepening, but this time AMD will be selling the majority of the top two speed grades.
