I'm still holding much the same hand I had 6 months ago. I did trim a few positions back in July, sold some INTC and CSCO. More recently trimmed some SEBL. It's very hard to say if all this work has been better than doing nothing. The account I manage has lost about 15% of it's value since the Nasdaq hit 5000+ early this year (that was before MSFT dropped from the 90s to the 60s). I believe the decline in value is split equally between losses and taxes. I'm now holding only the lowest-basis portions of almost every position. TXN has been disappointing, SEBL and MEDI pleasant surprises. The math is extremely complex but I think I'm better off than if I'd kept holding the original MSFT position that made up the lion's share of my portfolio back in November 99. Overall I seem to have been a net seller this year, and it's left me with beaucomp cash even net of taxes. The large cash position is probably why I've seen only half the losses of the Nasdaq as a whole. :(
