jackmore: Do you suppose that Jan Uddenfeldt of Ericsson is even aware of the powerhouse of knowledge the Ericsson has in San Diego?

From this story, there seems to be a total, complete disconnect between the "powers that be" (sadly so) in Stockholm and London and those who work for Ericsson on CDMA2000 in their San Diego "colony".

Very very sad.

Shows how much the problem of "legacy people" is in the real world. This guy doesn't have a clue what is happening in a "branch" of his own company, let alone the big big world outside Europe.

This is also why the Ericsson people who are also "legacy people" (meaning tied to the old, not aware of the new) in China don't have a clue re CDMA as it is in the real world.

China (i.e. the Ministry which is in "charge" listens to the old guard, and the old European guard (such as the Ericsson hangers on) reinforces the old Chinese guard [who in fairness are actually old in chronological age and therefore perhaps deserve some slack ].)

GSM uber alles. And WCDMA is "European" - absolute complete and total nonsense. Yoiks !

What a world, but that is what we live in.

Pity, but perhaps there is hope that the obvious advantages that the upgrade path the Qualcomm mainstream has will be noticed in Stockholm/London by Ericsson "Leadership" - [sic] someday, somehow, someway.

<work on enhancing W-CDMA will occur in tandem with the CDMA2000 1xEV effort to take the U.S. version of CDMA up to 2 Mbits/s.>

Sounds like the W-CDMA crowd maybe looking at using 1xEV (Q's HDR) to enhance data throughput. I don't blame them. HDR offers a lot and of course embeds lots of new Q patents in each 3G spec that includes it.

To my way of thinking, this talk about getting *beyond* 3G is just like AWE saying they are already prepared to move into 4G via EDGE.
Editorial {:^)>
They cannot produce the product for the *present* moment, and to distract from this fact of non-performance (WCDMA) at this time, they are pointing to the future. This would be the logical scam to keep the current analysis by Koreans et.al. thinking maybe there is something more valuable in the future. Again, this is only logical if they have very little at the present moment to offer. I believe this is just a publicity stunt and quite likely is nothing more than a red herring to continue their program of FUDD. Promises promises promises........this is why I am relieved the Korean Gov is stepping in to prevent NTT influence from buying the day for 3G licensing in Korea, for without that assistance from Korean Gov, the Old Guard could easily purchase the Oriental World another generation of Colonialist Rule in wireless telecom. Korea, Chinese Govs are hopefully more interested (than the srvc.provdrs.) in the well-being of their respective populations and subsequent economic growth, not in paying royalties to the Colonialists and having them wheelbarrow tons of cash out of their countries.
