As far as INTC goes,

I am writing this post on an AMD K6 machine that runs Windows just fine! I bought it less than a year ago, and saved a great deal of money on that purchase. AMD has proven itself to the "consumer" .....IMHO.

Perhaps AMD is nipping at their heels.

Top four EDA companies by market share are
1. Cadence Design Systems (CDN)
2. Synopsys (SNPS)
3. Mentor Graphics (MENT)
4. Avant! (AVNT)

After the top 4, there is a steep drop off in size. I think number 5 is probably Innoveda (INOV)

If I understand what I have been told AMD is shipping more processors than INTC. The statement was that AMD ships more than half the processors in the US. INTC is still getting more money a recent number was 83% of the dollar revenues.

One big problem is unit delivery. Getting P III's is difficult. Often only limited speeds are available.
