Word is that there is a decent chunk of oversupply in RDRAMs because people were expecting RDRAMs to take off because of hard P4 launch. Also, there seems to be some inventory overhang because of slow p3-RDRAM ramp. Samsung may just luck out big time if Intel drives p4 hard.

You'll see that there are only three pages of 64 MB RIMMs, compared with 8 pages of 128 megs and 6 pages of 256 megs. Each Willy system needs 2 RIMMs, for one for each of its two channels. Are Rambus makers ramping up 64 megs modules? Not that I know of. I remember hearing something about Samsung shifting production to higher density RIMMs. That'll mean two 128 RIMMs per system, or over $450 in memory costs alone! There is no way such systems are going to ship in volume. Furthermore, given the high fixed cost (logic) per Rambus mem chip, I expect strong pressure for 64 meg modules to ramp to the NULL pointer.

Rambu* isn't Intel's only problem. Dual channel Rambu* just doubles their pleasure.
