Vice President Al Gore Friday reiterated his call for
the Clinton Administration to release crude from the
US' Strategic Petroleum Reserve, but detailed the
request by suggesting "six or seven" initial draws
"over the next month or so." "Get that extra supply
into the pipelines and into the marketplace," Gore
said at a campaign stop. Gore on Thursday called
for a rare SPR release to lower heating oil costs
ahead of the winter. Gore, the Democratic
candidate for president, also reiterated his pledge to
offer tax credits to distributors who build their
heating oil inventories, to establish a permanent
heating oil reserve in the northeast, and seek
$400-mil in additional funding for the low income
home heating assistance program. "I think it's
important to act," Gore said.
