Well, on a day with moderate traffic, it takes me an hour from my house to the National Gallery, going down 50, which turns into New York Avenue, turning onto North Capitol, and sort of sliding around towards Constitution and then 4th Street. It takes about an hour to the National Zoo, going from 50 to the Beltway to Connecticut and then down towards the zoo. It takes 45 minutes to my mother's, in Naylor Gardens near Branch Avenue in the District. It is not so bad, except during the rush hours.

Now, there is a bus that goes from Bowie to the New Carrollton Metro station, with a huge parking lot. The fare is 50cents, and the Metro fares are not so bad. It is woefully underused, even though it is closer than the MARC train depot, and when they tried to charge a modest fee for parking, there was a big rebellion, and they had to back off. No one would use either station if traffic down New York Avenue were not so bad. If they built an elevated highway that avoided local traffic and allowed one to come out somewhere near the convention center, no one would ever use public transportation for commuting in my area.

I doubt that anything will ever beat your own car..........
