>INTC is just a big, fat canary.

I think Intel's earnings warning has nothing to do with oil and everything to do with their own internal problems. Have you noticed all the Athlon computers sitting on store shelves these days ? It was a shock when the news came out, and that is why after-hours became a blood bath yesterday. The NAS rebounded today as people realized that the Intel trouble is probably company specific. After all, AMD hasn't warned, and they are in the same business as Intel. Towards the end, relief turned into euphoria among some of the speculators, or so it seemed looking at BRCD,HAND etc.

Yes, there is a lot of speculation in this market and yes, oil is potentially a serious problem. Then again, if we get a warm winter (global warming) then the oil problem goes away and the speculation carries us towards NAS 5000. There are still some ways the oil problem could be solved, and it would be a shame to miss out on a NAS rally.

As for the euro, the momentum of its decline has been broken by the intervention, and although the long term problems remain, I think/hope that it will settle down for the next few months.
