CIENA wins Korea Telecom contract

(Why is this relevant to NXTV? Because NXTV's equipment will go in the apartment buildings with a fiber input from the telco. I'm willing to bet it will be Ciena's Metro-DWDM equipment that will have be on the other end of that fiber line in the central office. This story, I think, provides some confirmation that Hansol - a distributor - is not just buying $80M of NXTV's product to sit pretty on a shelf...)

LINTHICUM, Md., Sept 25 (Reuters) - Telecommunications equipment maker CIENA Corp. (NASDAQ: CIEN) said on Monday it had won a big South Korean contract to supply gear for high-speed links in seven cities.

The fiber-optic equipment company said in a statement that it believed the contract with state-run Korea Telecom Corp. was the largest of its kind in Asia.

CIENA added that the deal poised it for further expansion in Asia. Financial details were not released.

CIENA said Korea Telecom would use its MultiWave Metro fiber-optic system to bolster Korea's rapid growth in Internet and data network traffic within metropolitan areas.

The MultiWave systems let several signals be transmitted simultaneously over the same circuit or channel. Korea Telecom will use the equipment in seven cities, including Seoul, the capital.
