Eugene:

I agree that it's kind of getting late for another major warning. I thought about that CPQ warning in 1999, as well as the one in 1998, which followed on the heels of an INTC warning. But the 1999 CPQ warning caused Pfeiffer's and Mason's demise (two screwed up Q1's in a row caused by Q4 channel stuffing), and the new CPQ management has been working hard to rebuild credibility with the street, so I don't think there's a CPQ bombshell waiting to hit.

Michael Dell has been prominently on CNBC re-affirming that they're on track for 30% growth, and in any event their Q doesn't end until 10/31, so we won't get a surprise from them. HWP said they're on track, which only leaves IBM as a potential hit - possible but unlikely IMO.

The more I read, the more I think Intel's problems are the result of their losing some of their historical edge in managing supply/demand and product transitions.

QCOM feels to me like it's gathering for another runup, but we may need some catalyst to get it going. Continued evidence of rapid growth in wireless handheld devices might do it, and PALM's earnings are due for release on Monday after the close. If they're a blowout (and I expect them to be), that could be the nudge QCOM needs.
