Joe said about conservative papers:I didn't think you had any (except maybe in Alberta).

The Globe and Mail, The National Post (2 national papers), The Toronto Sun and its chain across Canada, all conservative owned.. The only real centre to moderately left wing paper in Canada right now is the Toronto Star.

Joe then tried speculatng on political parties:
It seems that your parties go form Liberal (your Conservative Party) to Socialist (your Liberal) toCommunist (New something or other)

chuckle... you seem to have misread the political parties up here.. our definition of liberal and the US's definition of liberal are rather different.. but I wont get into that.. to clarify parties up here:

We have the Liberal party that currently is in power - a middle of the road party (the one I support) that embraces both left and right concepts.. THe "conservative" parties are represented by the Progressive Conservative Party, and the Canadian COnservative Alliance (or Alliance for short), which was the old Reform Party.. the Alliance is the more right wing of the bunch, and would probably match up well with the Republicans. The New Democratic Party is the one that had socialist beginnings (albeit principles formed in democracy) when it was formed... but it is much more of a social democratic party now... and finally.. you have the Bloc Quebecois.. the nationalist party from Quebec who represent the separatists in parliament. There are no major parties with "communist" beliefs.. tho I do realize some rabid right-wing US guys think all of us are pinkos up here.. which couldnt be further from the truth, but since they wont change their minds on that, we dont bother trying to.
Thus ends your lesson on Canadian political parties :)
