Gene,
Just the SDRAM MTH recall in May put the SDRAM units at 1 million not counting all the RDRAM ones up to that point. That was just for 5 months shipment not counting all the RDRAM units shipped during the same period (and we know that Samsung alone said 10mil/8=1.25mil RIMMs or PCs and they had just started on the recall), and you have another 5 months to add since then and that all of them shipped with RDRAM (since the SDRAM recall and that RDRAM prices dramatically declined). I would say that at least 2-3 million i820s/i820Es have shipped year to date.

Intel delays release of Timna processor

"Last month, Intel recalled nearly 1 million motherboards that used an MTH and Intel's 820 chipset because signal problems with the MTH could cause systems to crash and potentially lead to data loss."

BTW, a small correction to your workstation number. The number you used for workstations was not 1st half but only for Q2 of the 1st half. That 75% number had grown from 35% in Q1 which was the much stronger quarter due to Y2K (Dell and Gateway had blow out earnings during that quarter). But even if you assume the same number of units we have: Q1=95K, Q2=203K and (I'll use 90% but I bet is much higher for Q3 as even more SDRAM ones got replaced with RDRAM ones after the MTH recall) for Q3 for 243K for 541K.

According to new figures from IDC, Direct Rambus DRAM was installed in 75 per cent of the 270,000 personal workstations shipped in Q2.
