That is correct - mostly.

Depending on what quotes you see, some are referenced to the 4:00 PM close on the prior day and yet some are referenced to what appears to be the last trade in after hours trading of the prior day.

I get real-time quotes from my broker in two different methods - the quote is the same but the Up or Down reference points are DIFFERENT (as described above).
