Moving Sphere,

I was just curious about the hard-drive -- it's going to be the cpu that limits you as the hard-drive isn't involved unless you are simultaneously saving some of the data (I'm pretty sure). I'm actually a bit surprised that the 700MHz cpu doesn't keep up, but then you could have a million screens open... If cpu saturation is indeed the problem, then a faster cpu would help, and also multiple cpu's would help. I don't think the OS will matter if it's not a resources problem.

Another thing to consider is that a different data vendor MIGHT make a big difference. I haven't heard anything about MyTrack, but I have heard that, for example, QCharts uses about 1/10 the bandwidth of RealTick (and therefore possibly the same ratio of cpu utilization) because of less redundancy in the data. That doesn't necessarily make it a good choice because reliability is number #1, but something to consider. Here's a link to the QCharts thread:

I'm a big fan of dual-processor setups. AMD is supposed to be not too far away from having them although it might not be the best idea to be the first one to try them out.

Here's a link to the ars-technica God Box (i.e., how to spend a LOT of money on a computer and be a little smart about it). They update it once a month. It always has dual processors: arstechnica.com

I haven't tried this, and it could be kinda messy, but two computers is also an option. I also don't know if you could get them both logged on to MyTrack under one account. There is a device (~$100) that lets you use one keyboard and mouse to operate two different computers, so this should be feasible. You could get real Rube Goldbergian here -- let us know if you do anything real heroic <g>.
