The logistical need to be selective in saving from the bitstream is what transforms the filtering element of the datacasting patent from a constraint to a complement. Which would a broadcaster prefer? --- Allowing a content propagator to "rent" part of the broadcaster's fat digital pipe, through which the content propagator would send its own, unprotected content supported solely by the same old subscription and advertising models. or --- Allowing a digital distribution service outfit to enable the broadcaster profitably to use the pipe -- with its own premium content (of which it will have every incentive to aggregate more) -- by placing an intelligent, secure digital cash register at the point of descrambling and consumption?
