I haven't completely lost my magical thinking. It is a powerful creative tool that opens doors and helps explore the problem space. Ultimately, though, I return to first principles and make sure that the magic is testable. If I can't get Santa to deliver gifts, then what good is he to me? I'm not sure a lot of people are used to logical argument as it is supposed to be practiced. It's like hearing someone who sings but is tone deaf. THEY think they sound alright but the rest of us are plugging our ears. Logic and logical argument is uncomfortable when done poorly. If your ideas are poorly framed, it is terrible to watch your house of card collapse in front of you. This leads to anger and then a clinging to belief. Belief is the ultimate defense because it is irrefutable.
