Well, I have toured Monticello. I do not remember any avoidance of the slavery issue. It is true, it was not front and center. The tone of the tour was not one of a seminar in history, but a eulogy to a great man and his life's work. But I did not consider that inherently offensive under the circumstances. In any event, these were volunteers, and it was Virginia, so what is one to do?

Teach the whole story, warts and all, no matter the person, no matter the cause - but make sure the text book was written by an aparatchek from the Ministry of Truth. A few inconvenient facts could ruin years of indoctrination.

flappy, I am surprised you endorse such blatant racism as Sanger.

Now you have to go kneel before The Revrun Jesse Jackson and say three "hail MaxineWaters" and beg forgiveness for bringing up Sanger here.

She certainly wanted to rid society of blacks through infanticide.

Just so we don't mistake Hollywood made-for-tv story telling with history. We're in danger of raising a generation of doofuses aware of the fictionalized details of Jefferson's relationship with Sally Hemmings and ignorant of his relationship with the Constitution.
