hdl - here's how it works - a big buyer makes a long term contract with "expected delivery dates". They do it with multiple vendors, with all of the "expected dates" early in the contract. When they get parts, they just move the "expected delivery" back on the other contracts - no cancellation.

I agree that Intel should at least be able to qualify demand better - they have made this same mistake before and so when they saw demand that exceeded industry forecast, they should have made the connection.
