If a serf may presume to address a member of the Round Table-

While I would like to believe that the activities of the political class have no relevance to the practice of Gorilla Gaming, this past year has given us a demonstration of how a Justice Department bent on intervening in the marketplace can at least hobble, if not destroy, a Gorilla. Some discussion, courteous, of course(g), of the implications for the different possible outcomes in November is warranted, I believe. Ignore Wall Street analysts, yes. Ignore public relations department hype, yes. But ignore the political class at your peril.

JMHO, and now back to groveling in the dirt out in the courtyard.

Thanks for the support, UF. You're supposed to be on vacation.

Do you really want to stand by and watch this thread bloat with political debate for the next few weeks? I don't. There are plenty of forums for that kind of discussion that inevitably breaks down into dems vs republicans; left vs right; liberal vs conservative; libertarions vs everyone.

Let me suggest that we try to at least limit our discussions to business related topics, if not simply investing related (non-political) topics.

I'd rather discuss options strategies. <g>

Uncle Frank, I defer to your wisdom. I estimate that at least 80% of all the new technology is produced in the U.S. You do have a point. The U.S. isn't Paraguay or Portugal. The election may indeed influence the investment climate.
By the way, since we are free to discuss general matters, I think few people know about the project at MIT that encapsulates fissionable material in graphite which resists temperatures of thousand of degrees. The material is in small balls, about the size of tennis balls. It's easy to remove the spent balls and they can be stored infinitely more safely than spent nuclear material now. The project was originally done safely in the laboratory in Europe, over a period of 17 years but now it's anathema in Europe, like nutritious food from genetically modified plants, which don't need pesticides. So the industrialization of the process is being done in the U.S. It looks to me like it will be a key factor in solving the energy crisis.
There are more bold people, e.g. venture capitalists, (also investors in QCOM?) in the U.S. than elsewhere. The sample country I know, Canada, has 1/10 of the GNP of the U.S. but less than 1% of the venture capital.
Thanks to the remarks of all the kind respondents, I've decided to buy some QCOM, Monday morning.

<groan>

talk about Homer nodding! we do not encourage even general market discussions here, so why in the world would we encourage political discussions that at best could only be tenuously market-related? form a "G&K Political Candidates" thread if you like, but don't pollute this one...

may i make a request ?

those that are interested in discussing political matters here, could u please start your posts with the word "POLITICS" ?

That way, those amongst us that are interested would read it, those amongst us that are not interested would ignore it based on the key word.

cheers, kumar
