Dear Ted:

I have seen the aftermath of earthquakes. But if they want to live in such an area, they should pay for it using state or local funds. The hardest thing to take is to lose a home that is structurally sound but, unhealthful due to washing of wastes and mud throughout a home. Did you smell the decay? The gunk coating everything? Your home taking a cruise downriver? And not being able to return to it for months?

The building codes in California need to be strengthened. The quality of construction would not be allowed for a detached garage here in Wisconsin (actually I have seen outhouses here built better). Many of those freeways should be rebuilt to keep the primary road at ground level where there is lot less likely to be damage. Building a double decker freeway may be less costly, but it is inherently far less safe. And California should pay for all those upgrades out of its own pocket.

I tired of sending money so that they can sell water to farmers at 25% to 50% of cost. So that they can grow totally surplus cotton. So that it reduces their costs but increases ours (we get the least return of any state on HWY dollars or FED taxes).
