The clintons (bill, hillary, and algore) and their party's disgusting media sycophants all make me sick to my stomach, and I have the added bonus of living in NYC where that bitch will undoubtedly cause worse traffic than we currently have. It is almost too sad for me to even think about.

Re: >>>Just think of all those poor New York Voters with their heating oil and propane furnaces in their 3000 square foot ranches- shivering from the coolness of setting the thermostat back to 68F- having to wear sweaters, even INSIDE. Oh, the humanity. <s> <<<

New Yorkers who live in 3000 sq. ft. ranches are generally not eligible for LIHEAP assistance.

Below is the actual income threshold set by the individual states and the suggested (higher) income threshold suggested by HHS for Feb. 2000, which was a very cold month for the East.

How many New Yorkers own a 3000 sq. ft. ranch on $25,050 a year? Some low income elderly MAY fit this category.

The funds are very limited compared to the need and usually go first to the disabled and elderly with shut-off notices first.

Terry--

I can't get the Yahoo! news article link to open, but I see on the front page of my Sunday paper that the income guidelines for my state have been set at a $17,000 threshold for a family of four--that's at 150% of the federal poverty level for that family size.

In my area a 2800 sq. foot pre-owned home runs $250,000. I doubt there's anyone eligible for LIHEAP in my area living in a 3000 sq. ft. ranch with the rare exception of a few elderly with paid-off homes (assuming they've got a couple of dependents in the home.) And then after paying about $4,500 in real estate taxes that leaves about $12,500 for living expenses which puts them firmly in poverty level territory.

I'm watching Dick Cheney on CNN right now. He talking energy policy. He just expressed unconditional support for low income energy assistance programs...you bet he does. Energy/utility guys love this program. Without it they simply don't get paid when accounts go delinquent in severely cold weather.

Here's the funding history:

Notice LIHEAP (as we know it) is a Reagan era program.
