<<What sounds interesting to me is to combine this viewer technology with a multi-GB disk>>

I just don't see that happening on a large scale at this point. What will make this market take off is the network effect created by device ubiquity. The common denominator creating critical mass is flash memory becoming the de facto standard for cameras, PDAs, handsets, frames, printers, and other digital photography internet appliances. I see design wins seemingly everywhere for flash memory and very little activity for hard disk technology. The value chain has formed around flash and there are huge disincentives to stop and change. This may turn into a good case study of how lock-in is achieved. That doesn't mean hard disk technology won't be viable in some other application - just not this one IMHO.
