This was what I said:

<<My understanding from a buddy who is in the recording industry is that Napster threatens the big record companies more than the bands themselves. The labels worry about losing control of the artists. It seems that only the artists with the huge contracts are really screaming about it...ie Metallica. On the surface my take would be that it would hurt the artists but after listening to his logic my mind was changed to a certain degree. It also sounds as if in the very near future we will be downloading and burning our own cd's and paying the artist directly which scares the hell out of the record companies. Technology is so good today that artists can record in a basement and still walk away with great sound. This will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.>>

1) I never said that promoters and labels shouldn't get paid....I said the new technology scares them.
2) As I said in another post I feel as though napster is unethical and I don't use it.
3) Don't try and pin me down as to what I'm saying in an it's either this or that type of deal. Few things are quite that black & white.
4) This post of mine was offered as an opinion of someone who works in the industry. Just as I listen more closely to your telecom views because of your experience maybe you should consider doing the same from a guy who has years of experience in a different industry.
5) I'm not sure how I feel about becoming good at your art and leaving the initial label you start with. I'm not sure that's ungrateful. I don't know where or whom you started your career with but most people leave their jobs with training they didn't have only to take it to another employer for more money.
6) The first contract for a recording artist is many times almost slave labor. Hence the reason we see bands shifting labels more often these days.
7) The crack remark was just plain stupid and had zero to do with the discussion. I expect more from you ....you're much smarter than that.
