david:

Thank you for your explanation...I must admit that I didn't realize that I was comparing different book to bill indices...i.e semiconductor vs. semi conductor production equipment...Any idea what the historical semiconductor production equipment indice average is???

Dave, How would we go about suggesting to the SIA that they resume publishing book to bill ratios? I think the current situation with no book/bill numbers is much worse than the old days. Now you've got guys like JJ, who predicts that an industry is getting ready to crash because the price of an obsolete memory component (8 Mb and 16 Mb flash ram chips) drops on the spot market, even though its still selling at twice the contract price!

I'm sure the CEO's of the semi companies are livid about the current situation and would probably welcome the move to publishing the industry average data.
