Steve, [edited] US rig count is still trending up. slb.com

Some analysts expect day rates to increase further
biz.yahoo.com

Next year's earnings are expected to be almost triple
this year's biz.yahoo.com

So there's a chance ESV price could increase further.

What do you think?

Gottfried
On the other hand, I saw a CNBC blurb this week that 2 oil companies are suspending drilling in the gulf. I have no details, but will look and post if I find something.
[edited] I found the story and it was because of a storm.

Steve - Thanks, I don't follow the sector that closely and I didn't realize the information was so readily available. I've tried the Strictly Drilling thread, but it was just too hard to keep up with the posts.

Have your or Gottfried or anyone read a good synopsis of what's going on, and if so, and can you point me in the right direction? With oil priced this high, why would anyone suspend drilling? Last week I asked a neighbor in the business why rigs were still idle and he just shrugged and said (I think) that drilling won't really pick up until there's greater certainty that the price will stay high enough. Makes sense, but then my assumption was that it was profitable above about $15-20 a barrel. That's a long way from today's prices.

And any opinions on the release of the oil from the Strategic Reserve?
