White House e-mails finally emerge

New details on Buddhist temple fund-raiser

ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 — Vice President Al Gore’s staff described an event he attended at a Buddhist temple as a fund-raiser, and an e-mail suggested he bring $20 as “an offering,” according to reconstructed White House computer messages belatedly turned over to Congress on Friday.

THE LONG-MISSING messages, provided to the House Government Reform Committee, chaired by Rep. Dan Burton, R-Ind., also show that Gore’s office was informed of an offer from a businessman to raise $250,000 if a White House coffee were arranged with President Clinton.

The newly disclosed e-mails further support the assertion of Gore’s political opponents that the temple event and the coffees, 21 of which had the vice president as host, were fund-raising events. The White House has always denied that they were fund-raisers.

I told you they wouldn't be able to keep a lid on it!

Quote #1:

Both Doyne and his boss, Gore campaign national field director Donny Fowler Jr., have been unofficially reprimanded for boasting that they "have Austin wired and know what's going to happen before Bush does," campaign sources said.

E-mails to Doyne from the mole and Doyne's response to "stay hush-hush on this" are among several pieces of evidence that the FBI already has, according to a DOJ source. The source also said the paper trail appears to stop at Fowler, but may yet reach higher.

Quote #2:

Meanwhile, several "Bush for President" interoffice memos were e-mailed into a personal account from a Bush campaign e-mail address, Republican sources told Fox News. From the personal account, the information was then e-mailed to Michael Doyne, assistant to the national field director for the Gore campaign.

Senior Bush aides say the mole is one person e-mailing information to himself at an outside account, although they have not ruled out the possibility of an intermediary or the existence of more than one mole.
