it seems to me that the railroad business would be much better if there were as many passengers riding passenger trains as there are on the freight trains!

at midnight they started making up our train, so i crawled into an empty boxcar in the string and spread out and went to sleep.

it was a slow but beautiful two-hour ride from there to livingston. it was all upgrade through a steep winding canyon. i rode a reefer top with fresh air and a good view.

friday, july 5. i turned out at 9:30 a.m. and just as i roped my bindle, a long drag rattled to a stop at the coal chutes. i swung onto her as she left five minutes later.
