Richard, Easy for me to understand how nature can express itself in numbers as one only has to examine things like path of least resistance expressed in a math formula. Simple example is the structure of a honey bee hive. As for events of human activity that seem to follow from numbers, it may be just the opposite as what you mentioned, as rather than a group picking a number because of its significants with other events that they associate with, the numbers themself may not be important of and in themself to contain a hidden meaning, but just more laws of nature expressing themself and discovered by humans in those math equations made to represent an analogue model.
