if my tone sounded harsh

Heck Darleen.. You're a sweetheart.....

Listen.. if I can dish it out, I certainly take it... :0)

And I certainly respect someone's right to choose the quality of life that they desire... That's why we have able-bodied men/women still riding the rails as modern-day hoboes to this day, or "homeless", but entirely capable, individuals I see panhandling for quarters on the street corners....

I'm more than willing to help someone who has a desire to help themselves... I think every American would share that belief since at one time or another, we've all needed help from someone else....

But for those who have deliberately opted to take from society more than they have contributed, I just don't have a lot of compassion. I won't let them starve, mind you..., but neither should they be rewarded for their lack of effort.... especially since WE ALL HAVE TO WORK to survive, raise families, pay for college for the kids, AND PREPARE for retirement...

No... I will never believe in letting anyone starve to death, but neither will I just be content to continue just passing out money to able bodied men and women without an expectation of something in return... Sometimes hunger can be the best motivator...

I don't care so much about adults as they will find a way to survive...... my primary concern is with assisting the children who are caught in the middle and suffer as a result of their parents unwillingness, or simple inability, to pursue employment... even if in another city...

Despite those liberals unwillingness to accept such a possibility, there do exist people who just DON'T WANT TO WORK... (I met one guy the other day who was a perfect example of this)...

Well, pardon the crass sounding of the following, but I consider it "social darwinism"..... except that were it true darwinism, there would be no govt safety net to pick people up and sustain them...

Bottom line.. life has to include a sense of struggle... If it didn't we'd all sit back and spend our days drinking brewskies and watching Jerry Springer re-runs... The government safety net should exist ONLY for those who cannot provide for themselves (not for those who CHOSE not to do so)...

Regards,

Ron
