I VOTE YES...I think sensoring is the wrong answer...live and let live. His obvious antagonism and arrogance have earned him the reputation he now has. He'll have to deal with it...

The sofite's of the world will always be there, in one form or another. An individual investor's discipline is one of their most valuable assets. If we are not able to use this discipline to 'ignore' or otherwise deal with his disruptions here, it is a sign of our own weakness.

Softie can be put on 'ignore' and not another post will be seen. To do so select the 'Ignore this Person' and check one or all of the 3 options.

- Public Messages from Softechie
- Private Messages from Softechie
- Public Messages to Softechie

This is a great thread, but, I for one believe our first amendment applies. There are several other people on this thread that play the same game...only not so obvious. Where do we draw the line drawn, where does it stop?

I vote NO -- I have already put Softechie on IGNORE since he/she is wasting my time AND, as I sense, that he/she is deliberately seeking to corrupt the thread by seeking to lead it to his/her benefit. I joined and participate in the thread SOLELY because of the integrity that I found in Rande when he participated in the TMEX thread a while ago and because of similar characteristics that others have demonstrated

It is very easy here in SI to start your own thread if you have a desire to speak from a soapbox. At this time, we have a leader (rande) and numerous excellent contributors who make up a damn good TEAM. I believe that a good, organized and focused team can increase the individual investors percentages. Discord rips at the team.

The preferred "Acceptance Criteria", if there are any, is a well thought through, well articulated argument or opinion that reinforces the team effort. Yes we have a vision, a standard, a way of doing business here and it has worked well for most of us going on two years.

Think of it this way, if softechie was an employee at your company would you keep him or send him along.

After the excellent exposure of the thread during the SI awards, the number of new names at HOME increased dramatically. Numerous new contributors have already sensed the benefits of HOME and are here often with solid contributons. In the overwhelming group of "old" and "new" members, softechie stands out --- to far out for me.

I vote yes - ignore.

I would also suggest that even those that choose not to ignore just not respond to any ranting, raving, or unsupported statements.

And, Rande, if you still get PM's complaining, I think you should just publicly post that you're just not going to reply to those either. There's no need for you to waist any more time it.

I think once everybody goes on the defensive then there is no end in site until someone either wears out or can turn the other cheek. If a lack of responses doesn't allow someone's fire to burn out then perhaps more drastic measures could be called for.

I vote yes - for probation

Sometimes folks' egos get in the way, and they post stupid things, which they would probably agree was stupid if they re-read them six months later. I've posted my share. Sometimes folks don't lurk long enough to learn the proper etiquette for a certain thread. This thread has more protocol than most (not necessarily a bad thing), which could throw someone off balance if they are used to shooting from the hip under cover of alias.

It's easy enough to monitor softie's posts via peoplemarks. Pull his posts up once every Saturday. If he's an angel, or even moderately annoying, there's room at the table for a wide range of opinions. If he's being a complete prick, post a request for all readers to make use of the ignore feature. At that point, everyone is left to their own decision.

I vote no -- Threads have themes and part of the theme here seems to be one of order, sharing research, and expressing that research, backed with reasons and details. There are plenty of other places to express one liners, hype, flames and the list goes on. I am here because of order, not chaos. This is not a matter of freedom of speech, rather a matter of following rules. Seems to me each thread has some rules or goals, and I am sure it is no different here. Rules are part of life.

Softechie has made it clear by his posts to other threads what he thinks of this thread and it's posters. The question then is why he continues to read and post here. I believe it is to disrupt the thread and antognize thread members.
A sample of his recent posts to refresh all of your memories
>>>Go over Randy's thread and tell them that. They bashed me for being negative last week. They hype and hype like chickens running around looking for food.

>>>Hey I like your thinking. It's much better than hypsters over Randy's thread. Bunch of bozos.

>>>>Max, You should go over Randy's thread and post your comments on the market in general. They hate bad news over there. Tell them to get real and wake up. They're still looking for March 2000 run. No wonder people lost their money listening to those hypsters.

Sounds to me like we are doing him a dis-service if we keep him around. I recently found this thread and find it immensely helpful in finding quality opportunities and in understanding the market. I post rarely as like many others I am learning and don't feel ready to offer many opinions on stock picks yet. I enjoy the fact that there is very little P & D hype posts here and appreciate they respectful way you moderate the thread.
I hope the Tribal council speaks and extinguishes his torch.

This is an interesting study in Democracy. The First Amendment is not a factor here. You can't shout fire in a crowded theatre. On a lesser note you can't go to a French class and start speaking German. This is similar.

The person in question has clear and admitted disdain for this thread. The only reason he is here is to be disruptive and create controversy. He is causing the group to consume valuable resources and direct their attention to him. The reasons are unimportant.

This is a simple democratic issue. The majority should get its wishes. Vote him off the island. DS

I Vote No. To my mind this Softechie thing has nothing to do with a so-called contrarian view and everything to do with disruptuion, disrespect, arrogance, probable envy and a host of "attitudes". (Anyone who reads the financial press has been aware of the lag in carrier revenue growth & the resulting pressure on EPS as a result of large infrastructure buildout expenses.) Hello & Duh?... nothing new there. Posting a bunch of articles (chosen from Barron's and thestreet.bom of all places) shows no as he/she put it..."research" whatsoever.

BTW....Softechie's disrespectful posts on other threads continued last Friday night....more trash talk.

Today surprised the hell out of me. They've talked about money sitting on the sidelines and waiting for the chance to buy and they got their wish today. Once investors saw the damages from the first hour they jumped on opportunities and bought defensive stocks like foods and medical/biotechs and telecoms and some techs/internets. So the confident in the market is very much there but it's in different sectors other than techs and internets. Like water in the bathtub it keeps swinging between the Dow and Nasdaq depending who has the better news. What I feel is that investors have confident in the old econ companies to be around while waiting for the breakout on techs and internets.
As for short-term, I'm looking for daytrading only and hold long position in telecom issues, short chip equipments and net equipment issues. I still like growth stocks but not gonna pay for high valuation. This sentiment is carried by many other fund managers from what I've read.

BTW, if you want to piss off the short-sellers in #2 largest short positions, buy and join me over CNC thread. CNC has extended their loans and the fat lady won't be singing for a while.

ps: Bunch of hypsters over Randy's thread just hate my calls...what's with them anyway? Something got a twitching and they jump and holler and pump it up. If you read that thread and think gosh the good times are back...get real people!!!

2) Pissed off the shorts over Pinky's den.
3) Pissed off the hypsters over Randy's thread.

It's too bad that these guys just can't take contrarian view points. Not everything is rosy you know. You are your own master of your fate and make decision when you see both sides of the coin.

I vote "Yes".

While mainly a lurker in SI and RagingBull, I've learned to screen the good, the bad, and the ugly posts. Basher, contrarian, hypster, doom and gloom predictor, and even critics are all part of our social aptitude. How many of us have never been one of the above while going thru our daily life outside the stock market? The reality is that human beings have a right to voice their own opinions on everything that can be discussed under and above our blue sky.

Doug from post #36114 said, "This is a simple democratic issue. The majority should get its wishes. Vote him off the island."

Democratic issue, in my opinion, is the issue of how we choose our leader. As far as I'm concerned, this is NOT the issue here. As everyone who lurked in this thread know very well who the leader is. Voting someone off, in my opinion, is NOT a democratic issue. We do not tell the Republicans to leave the country when the Democratic party won the presidency. In fact, the Republican party continues to have the right to be a strong critics (or bashers) of the Democratic party (and vice versa as well). Just pick up any newspaper if no one believe me... <g>

Since this thread is still part of SI's public forum and not a private club with exclusive privilege to paying members (aka "the island" to some), I say that anyone who has not violated the SI's term of use has a right to post anywhere in SI as he/she pleases. Now, if some believe other has violated SI's term of use, the best solution, in my opinion, is to present the facts to SI and let them boost him/her off if the term of use has been violated.

Rande Is, as your popularity grows, the "small town" friendly atmosphere that we all enjoyed so much will become more and more difficult to maintain. As more and more people come to read this thread, there are bound to be some who just simply have to voice their different opinion in their own particular manner- good, bad, or ugly.

Like it or not, no matter how quickly you get rid of an annoying fly, a couple more (instead of one) will quickly take its place.

Such is the life when you become a popular public figure.

Good luck and congratulation on your winning the SI "Most Valuable Poster" award.
