Note that the song was a hit first... downloaded second. Today the quality of the downloads is not as high as CD quality. Holland may not understand that the quality will improve and if it does then CD sales will simply go away. If we agree that the net is a better distribution mechanism - which I think we already have agreed on if the quality becomes as good as CD quality then what? Would Holland be as accomodating if his entire CD was downloadable and high quality... then what would he say?

The issue isn't about what the current status is - the issue is more a long the lines of what this type of activity will represent in 5, 10 , 20 years from now.

Let's drop this though... it's clear we disagree. I totally disagree with free access to media. I think that those that think it should all be free should consider how they would feel if they put in days or years of work on a project only to see it pilfered on the web and have no legal recourse and a government unwilling to protect their rights.
