In the 40+ years of my adulthood, I have run across just about every kind of belief, or non-belief, there is, and am just reporting on what I have seen and heard. If I ever run across an Atheist that treats a Christian with respect, I will disagree with him, but will do it respectfully. That hasn't happened to me yet. Perhaps they are there, and I have just not met any of them. No, I do not agree with all of the different directions Christianity caused be the tampering with the Bible by mortal men who wanted to put their own spin on it. I think that Martin Luther made advancements in Christian worship by breaking away from the oppressive regime of the Roman Catholic Church, but I also think that he took a wrong turn somewhere along the road. Either that, or his words were perverted by followers that came after him. From what I have read, this is what happened to Calvinism. Modern day Puritans, and Calvinists, are not preaching the same doctrine espoused by John Calvin. His thoughts and ideals began to be eroded very shortly after his death, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica, and Comptons. Those that truly believe in God, do not have the tendency to engage in activities like pornography, immorality, or violence. Those that do not believe in God, have nothing to restrain these human frailties. I will be the first to admit that there are some people who profess to be Christian that do such things, but that fact proves that they are not true believers. I Don't say these things because I disagree with these people but, because I have seen them in action. ~H~
