W98 is not SMP (dual processors) aware. NT and 2K are. I think that 2K is a little better than NT.

Even if the application itself does not take advantage of having two CPU's, it is possible to assign applications to specific CPU's which will boost performance when running more than one application.

You'll be sharing one memoty pool/bus, so you're not going to get 2x performance, but it should help.

Moving Sphere,

Most individual applications are not designed to take advantage of dual processors. I'm not sure whether something like MyTrack or RealTick is. But it doesn't matter that much if you've got a million windows and applications running, because the two cpu's will split up the work between them. So, maybe one cpu will handle MyTrack and the other will do Netscape, and you won't get bogged down when the MyTrack cpu is saturated.

I may not have mentioned this, but win9x won't run dual cpu's. You can have two cpu's in your system, but only one will be doing the work. You need Win NT or Win2k to take advantage of duals (or Linux, etc.).

Duals are also good for times when you are doing a long backing-up operation or any kind of extended writing to a disk like burning music CD's, etc. as it lets you do other things on the computer at the same time. Probably good for video capture too.
