Besides energy commodity futures heading lower, I'll bet that the release of 30mm barrels of crude from SPR stores will have one other temporary effect. The additional temporary effect will be to "declaw" the power of the weekly API reports to move the markets up if shortfalls in storage of crude and distillates continue to show up as they have recently. Why? Because analysts will tend to "discount" any such shortages by pointing out that the SPR figures shortly will start to show up in the statistics, once we're through the 15-day lag time needed to get the SPR crude transported, refined and stored.
