PC sales are expected to slow gradually for the coming three weeks until the fourth week of September, when the Windows Millennium Edition is slated to be released. PC sales in the first week of September 2000 showed a 1 percent increase in volume and a 0.2 percent decrease in value. Compared with the same week of the previous year (Aug. 30-Sept. 5, 1999), increases were 40.3 percent in units and 21.8 percent in value. The average retail price of PCs dropped from the previous week's 186,980 yen to 184,781 yen, down by 2,199 yen. Data was collected by GfK Japan Ltd., an information service company handling POS data on 3,200 large electric home appliance retail stores. Nikkei Market Access compiles the data. The average retail price has declined continuously, and has fallen to less than 185,772 yen, a record low price in the second week of May. The average price of desktop PCs recorded 150,000 yen for the first time in four months, while that of notebook PCs declined to near 210,000 yen.
