"This is a joint development effort, and the level of integration seen will be much tighter." Sounds like the MOT/PALM phone will be a co-developed, co-branded device, while Kyocera will be doing its own thing and just licensing the PALM OS. Also from the CNET article:The co-branded phone will be released sometime in 2002 and sold through Motorola.......The phone will be based on the next version of the Palm operating system, which does not yet have a release date. Not trying to be a party pooper here, but first, doesn't "sometime in 2002" sound like an eternity away to anyone else? At the speed this market is moving, they'd better get new products to market faster than in 18 months. And what happened to the PALM policy of not announcing new products until they're ready for release? And is the long lead time because the phone is just a concept right now, or because PALM OS2 won't be ready for at least a year yet? And is all this premature and being pushed by by HAND's moves in this area? Lots of Q's, no answers. Finally, I find it odd - or maybe intriguing is a better word - that all these announcements are coming from PALM right before earnings with the effect of hiking the stock price. Either they have a blowout Q to report (my expectation) and they're very confident that they won't need the announcements after today to prop up the stock, or they're stupid and haven't thought enough about managing expectations. I have the "sinking" [:):)] feeling that PALM, HAND and other companies in this field are going to be this years 1998 B2C and 1999's B2B/QCOM stocks through year end. I'm not sure what I'll do if PALM goes "E" and hits $200 by year end. David T. Mark: Note I used the "E" word and not the "B" word!
