If he is including the semi-trucks then I could agree with his point. The context of the statement suggested it was the SUV craze which is simply wrong.

I also noticed a huge increase in the number of semis on the road the past few years. Have you noticed they are driving much more professionally since the one nationwide licence took effect a number of years back. I know of a number of "professional" drivers who were forced to change careers as a result of that law. Given how they drive I claim it is a good law, a very good law.

EPA web site has a section listing the mileage ratings for every vehicle for the last 5 years. Quite fascinating. Some of the ratings are quite surprising and indicate technology of the engine has more to do with mileage than size of the engine.
