D. Floyd Russell,

I had a Trooper also which got about the same mileage. It didn't seem to matter if it was city or highway driving? I traded it in for a Landcruiser with 330 Lbs of torque, and a lot more weight, and I get better mileage in the Landcruiser. I think the old Troppers were a lot better than the newer ones.

Jim

re: "It is interesting that no one with a bully pulpit has dared to suggest that a little conservation might help us get through the winter ahead. "

It most certainly is interesting. Their silence on the issue is remarkable. Have not heard even one comment from either party about conservation.

Perhaps you should check for a leaking gas line in that Trooper? my 3 ton behemoth with a 255 HP 5.7 liter gets better mileage than that.

Conservation...what's that? Oh, that's just some silly granola-munching, tree-hugging talk. Truth of the matter is that even nominal conservation measures should be viewed similarly to finding and tapping the oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve. Of course it's easier to just bash the oil companies...comes off better in 15-second sound bites.

As for the potential new leaders of the free world: on one hand we have the "environmentalist" and inventor of the Internet now applauding the release of SPR, while his sidekick is saying OPEC should be "busted up" as if their natural resources are our birthright. On the other hand we have a silver-spooner with questionable intelligence and his sidekick, an ex-energy company CEO who actually advocates some kind of price controls on oil. Mind-numbing. The two-party system is failing us folks. It's really sad. When was the last time anybody voted FOR a candidate as opposed to AGAINST one. Sorry for ranting...

On-Topic...I'm looking to re-enter again today...drillers primarily.

Best to all,

-Minos
