santa fe, the city different...

it's a caricature of itself. hispanic and indian roots of mythical stories built to lure tourists, artists and wannabes... perpetuated by decent developers and marketing, but mostly word of mouth. all the town's a stage and all the inhabitants are actors. disneyland of the southwest, a great attraction to visit. the most expensive town in NM to live in, the indigenous can no longer afford it. property there is a good speculative investment. outsiders are welcome and in the majority, alternative lifestyles are the norm.

the elevation is 7000 ft. above sea level, it's cold in the winter, very pleasant in summer, high desert foothills surrounded by mountains, there's a great ski area just NE of town.

located on interstate 25, it's 70 miles north of the international airport in ABQ, 30 miles from cochiti lake where i keep my sailboat. with a population of well under 100,000 it has some of the best restaurants, art galleries and studios in NM. you can run into movie stars at the wild oats grocery.

people from other states and countries love it. to them, it is the "new mexico" experience, another world, another culture... that is what it is supposed to be... it is at least a very good facáde and at best a wonderland where you can write and produce a whole new screenplay for your life.
