Give me a break, Rick. Let's say I knew someone at the Vogelstein-Kinzler oncology lab and told them I had read the SMDX press release and was wondering what they thought of the company's equipment the lab just installed. What's wrong with that? In fact, I don't see why it would be tacky to just call the lab asking to speak with someone familiar with the equipment and get their opinion – being, of course, honest and telling them you're investigating SMDX as a potential investment.
I might add, that a couple of years ago I called a reporter to ask about a product (not biotech related) she had done a story on. She didn't know the company involved had a listed stock and was grateful to get that info from me.
OK, maybe bothering Vogelstein would be too presumptuous and perhaps I'm being a leech by hoping others will do the work (my thinking was I'm not knowledgeable enough to ask the right questions). But I don't see how checking out a product with users for investment purposes is at all tacky.
