i am not surprised...the lack of an energy policy manifests itself in these stats. the fact that 48% of US oil consumption is now being imported (highest percentage ever) makes it seem particularly imprudent to touch the SPR...if a real emergency should surprise by being particularly ill-timed, the SPR may be sorely missed. and those dorks in Europe talk about emulating this nonsense...good grief.

France is covered in nuclear power plants (has over 90 if i remember correctly), which explains the low carbon dioxide emissions.

Austria doesn't have a single nuclear plant, but has a fair amount of hydro electricity generation (all those mountains and rivers conspiring with with judiciously placed concrete slabs cum turbines).
