WASHINGTON (CBS. MW) -Internet services portal Yahoo filed a shelf registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission late Friday to offer up to $1 billion of debt and equity.

Yahoo -- which may sell a combination of common stock, preferred stock, debt securities, depository shares, or warrants -- plans to use the proceeds to make acquisitions, pay off debt, or repurchase its stock, the filing said.
