Sun had to pay for the technology behind Project Cascade.

Sun had to pay for technology in the E10000 as you so astutely pointed out:

Sun overpays for Cobalt, to get into the Linux Server appliance Biz they had been dismissing (until the recent Cobalt purchase).

Admit it, Sun is not innovating these days they are marketing. But of course you will vehemently deny this, as it would be saying that they've become like Microsoft...
