<<Are ya game?>>

Sure. But would like to take a leaf from your book and dragoon Areokat as co-honchoer until your return.

<<In addition to the metrics you mentioned, I'd still like to include most if not all the qualitative metrics I highlighted in my post.>>

I took that as a given. The metrics I cited are only means of purchase to get at what we really want. These are spelled out quite comprehensively in Network to Net Worth and brought into manageable form in your original memo, although we have to be mindful that the companies we are talking about participate in multiple networks. For each we would want to explore the parameters you set out:

1. Type of effect--direct or indirect

2. Level of intensity--interactivity and compatibility

3. Potential returns (revenues) and sources

4. Adoption cycle--clustering, connectors, new additions
(Here I think we might want to concentrate on the relationship of the nodes--some are more critical than others, i.e.--some will always be chimps)

5. Growth cycle--feedback, critical mass, monopolies (natural or not), switching costs embedded as network grows, cost structure. For cost structure, your point about incremental costs/fixed costs is particularly important to increasing returns and realizing the real benefits of network effects.

<<Keep Siebel in reserve for me.>>

It's got your name on it.

Any other volunteers?
