You are right, that MSFT delivers patches, and they have gotten better at doing that. My point was, however, that the more bugfixes you get for free from Microsoft, and the more free applications Microsoft produces, the harder it gets to justify to pay for an OS upgrade...

It is the whole business model that is under attack. All new important features seem to be free. Even the Media Player 7 is available for download, as far as I know.

Red Hat charges $1995 for their High Availability server including one year 24x7 server down hotline support, and daytime configuration support. This is a damned good price for a damned stable product.

If the product can do the job, you won't find it much cheaper or better.

The fact, that Red Hat didn't design the entire product doesn't count. History shows, that Windows has more serious bugs, and even has eastereggs unknown to the Microsoft corporation built in.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- At the Microsoft Enterprise 2000 Launch conference, SAP and Compaq announced a joint venture to expand mobile computer services using Microsoft (MSFT: news, msgs) Windows CE.

SAP (SAP: news, msgs) will work toward deploying its MySAP.com product, which links mobile employees with back-office functions such as calendars and e-mail, using Compaq (CPQ: news, msgs) IPaq hand-held devices.

The new product is expected to compete with Palm products
